Junior League of Winston-Salem

Improving Our Community

Can you name a Winston-Salem women’s organization that has recently been responsible for:
  • Developing an award-winning curriculum for teaching parents the importance of and giving them the tools to read aloud to their children?
  • Teaching every third-grade student in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools that they have someone to talk to if they are in trouble or experiencing abuse?
  • Founding the Children’s Museum of Winston-Salem?

The Junior League of Winston-Salem has done all that and more thanks to the dedication of approximately 1,000 women who support its mission to promote volunteerism, develop the potential of women, and improve the Winston-Salem community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

Since 1923, the Junior League of Winston-Salem (JLWS) has been, and continues to be, an integral and instrumental force for positive change. Each and every day in Winston-Salem, volunteers from JLWS are making a difference in the lives of children and families.

This year, the JLWS will give more than 20,000 volunteer hours to the community. It will continue to improve Winston-Salem through our continued commitment to reading to children, mentoring adolescents and building healthier families. The JLWS will train between 75 and 100 new members to address the needs of the community and to become dedicated and effective volunteers.
