New Members

The first year of membership in the Junior League of Winston-Salem (JLWS) is spent as a New Member. As a group, New Members receive intensive volunteer training, leadership development, and also learn about the history, governance, and structure of the JLWS. Membership can be transferred to any of the nearly 300 International Junior Leagues.

New Members begin their year in September and continue their training through the following May when they become Active members. New Members are required to attend meetings, and participate in community service events throughout the year that will help them prepare for becoming an Active member. They must also meet certain financial commitments and successfully complete the New Member Training Course. Here's more information regarding New Member Obligations and New Member Commitment.

In order to successfully submit your application, you will need to fill out the New Member Application (2018 application will be avaliable this spring) and submit payment of your new member fee ($75) and new member dues ($150, tax deductible). The new member fee covers the costs associated with programming for the first year in the League. The new member dues are the costs of annual membership. All members, both new members and active members, pay annual dues each year.

To submit your $225 ($75+$150) online or by mailing a check made payable to JLWS to: 390 South Liberty Street, Suite 100, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.

LEAGUE VOLUNTEERING:
Come volunteer at the Goler Community Garden! This volunteer opportunity is one of our "placements" within the League. A placement is our name for a role in the League. ‚ÄčEach year, everyone selects different areas‚Äč of the League that most interest them. You won't have a placement in your first year - being a new member - learning about the League and attending socials and meetings - is enough! But this is a great chance to see a placement in action!

For additional information regarding the membership application process, please email newmemberinterest@jlws.org.
