New Members

What to expect during your first year of membership

The first year of membership in the Junior League of Winston-Salem (JLWS) is spent as a New Member. As a group, New Members receive intensive volunteer training, leadership development, and also learn about the history, governance, and structure of the JLWS. Membership can be transferred to any of the nearly 300 International Junior Leagues.

New Members begin their year in September and continue their training through the following May when they become Active members. New Members attend meetings and participate in community service events throughout the year that will help them prepare for becoming an Active member. They must also meet certain financial commitments and successfully complete the New Member Training Course. Here’s more information regarding New Member Obligations and Commitment Snapshot for 2022-2023.

In order to successfully submit your application, you will need to fill out the New Member Application and submit payment of your new member fee ($75) and new member dues ($150, tax deductible). The new member fee covers the costs associated with programming for the first year in the League. Payment plans are available by contacting our Finance VP at financevp@jlws.org. The new member dues are the costs of annual membership. All members, both new members and active members, pay annual dues each year. The Application and payment of the new member fee and dues must be completed by August 1, 2023
